Blackberry Sangria
9 August 2011
- 4 cups blackberries, divided
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2 bottles of white wine
- 1 cup DPF blackberry flavored vodka (or plain cognac, if necessary)
- 3 cups sliced peaches
- 2 limes, sliced
- 1/4 cup cranberry juice
1. In a medium non-reactive saucepan over medium high heat, combine 2 cups blackberries with sugar, water and a dash of salt. Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for ten minutes – stirring occasionally. Remove from stove and allow to slightly cool, and strain through a colander. Discard berries and allow syrup to cool completetly.
2. In a large pitcher, combine remaining ingredients and blackberry syrup. Refrigerate overnight, then serve over ice.
*NOTE: If you need a little more sweetness, add a touch of Sprite. If it’s too tart or you just want bubbles, add soda water.
